ABOUT THE MCBA

More than 180 of your neighbors are members of the Middlesex County Beekeepers Association (MCBA). They are fascinated by these wonderful social insects called honeybees.

The dominant theme of our club is "beekeepers helping beekeepers." Beekeepers helping one another deal with problems in an increasingly urban county.

BEEKEEPING SCHOOL
Each January we hold classes in Beekeeping Basics to give you enough basic information to be able to care for a bee colony. Classes are held in conjunction with the Acton/Boxborough Community Education. In the meantime, you are welcome to come to our meetings to get an idea what is involved in keeping bees.

SUMMER MEETINGS
During the summer we meet on the fourth
Saturday afternoon of the month at a member's apiary to examine the hives, enjoy a presentation, and discuss our business. Just seeing how other people keep bees can be very informative.

WINTER MEETINGS
From October to April we meet on the
fourth Friday evening of the month, at the Unitarian Church on School Street near Carlisle center. We have a presentation, conduct business, and talk about bees. There is a festive holiday meeting, on the first Saturday in December.

SPRING WORKSHOP
A hands-on workshop for the new and old
beekeepers to actually work with the bees is scheduled early in May each year.

BEE TALKS - Speakers available.
For a speaker to talk to your club or school on the fascinating honeybee contact Birgit DeWeerd at 781-275-0613.

INSPECTION SERVICES
The Mass. Dept. of Food and Agriculture is Tom Stefanini, contact Tom at 508-8817765. Call Al Carl, Chief Apiary Inspector 617-626-1802 for hive registration and analysis of dead bees for mites.

GUESTS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME
If you would like to attend a meeting as a guest, please call Rick or one of the club officers as listed on our main web page.

JOIN THE ASSOCIATION
All beekeepers in Middlesex County (and beyond) are cordially invited to consider joining the Middlesex County Beekeepers Association.

We invite you to join our Association, to receive our mailing and attend our monthly meetings. Dues for each family are $10 per calendar year. Our programs are timely. We appreciate your participation. If you can't attend our meeting we attempt to put some of the meeting material in the newsletter.

THANK THE HONEYBEE
Honeybees are responsible for pollinating one-third of the food we eat. Even home gardeners would have no cucumbers or pumpkins unless a bee carries the pollen
from one flower to another.
